About Cardano
What Is ADA?
Cardano is a proof-of-stake blockchain platform built on peer-reviewed academic research. Its native token, ADA, is named after 19th-century mathematician Ada Lovelace — widely regarded as the world's first computer programmer. ADA is used to send value, pay transaction fees, and participate in on-chain governance.
Founded by Charles Hoskinson in 2017, Cardano is one of the largest blockchains to successfully use a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism. The platform's two-layer architecture separates basic transactions from smart contract operations, enabling efficient scaling without sacrificing security or decentralization.
